Shirley was born on November 29, 1935 in Ravenna Ohio to Fritz Ruehr and Elmina Whittaker Ruehr, She married George Lee McRobie on July 18, 1953 and on October of 1978 George's job moved him to Mt. Pleasant where they have lived ever since. When they moved to Texas, their youngest daughter, Cheryl and her husband came with them. Within two years their other two children John and his wife and Suzanne and her husband as well as Shirley's parents and John's in laws moved to Mt. Pleasant too. Shirley sang in a choir, whether it be in school starting in the 7th grade, or in a church choir for over 60 years. She loved her family deeply. In her younger years, she enjoyed camping and fishing and always singing. When she was still in school they always had to memorize the words to all the music for their concerts, so she was constantly singing around the house. In those early days, no one had an air conditioner so the windows were always open from springtime till fall so the neighbors got serenaded a lot. When her hands and fingers would allow her to, she was always baking and decorating cakes for folks and loved to send little notes of encouragement to family and friends. She always liked to hug you and let you know she cared, and above all she loved the lord.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, George Lee McRobie of Mt. Pleasant TX, her son, John McRobie and wife Lynn of Pittsburg TX, two daughters; Suzanne Stacy and husband Keith of Ravenna Ohio, and Cheryl Reigstad and husband Dan of Longview TX and 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
