Sammy Johnson

Sammy Neal Johnson of Winfield was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ August 6, 2019. He was 70 years old and was born in the Pittsburg Hospital July 6, 1949, to William R . and Mildred I. Johnson.

Sammy was raised in Mt. Pleasant and Waco, TX. After graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School, he attended East Texas State University. He married Melba Arnold of Sulphur Springs, in 1977. He served as a minister in the Baptist Church. He worked in construction and operated Johnson Cattle Company alongside his son, Chris Johnson. He will be remembered by all as a man who enjoyed spending time with family, sharing a good chuckle, watching his Dallas Cowboys, and tending the cattle.

Sammy was preceded in death by his father, William R. Johnson, mother, Mildred Johnson- Vanhoose, and sister, Patricia Johnson. He is survived by his wife, and children; Georgia Joudah and husband, Joffrey, of New Braunfels; Natalie Johnson and Walter van de Laar, of Saltillo, Chris Johnson and Jaci Ellis of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren; Aidan and Jaxon Joudah, Carter and Sarah Korsmo, Kyler, and Kayden van de Laar; siblings, Ricky Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, Dixie Threadgill of Pittsburg, and Gayle Johnson of Texarkana.

Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, August 10, followed by funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at Curry-Welborn Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Burial will follow at Cooper’s Chapel Cemetery.

John 14: 1-4 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.”
