The graveside service for Martha Mathis will be held at Grove Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 10am.
Martha Bell Taylor Mathis went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 1, 2023. She was born on January 23, 1927, near Chelsea Oklahoma in Rogers County to Herbert “Bud” Taylor and Bessie Ballard Taylor.
Martha and her husband, Edward, lived in the Dallas, Texas area until 1999 when they moved to Cookville, Texas. She lived her life as an example of one who loved Christ and was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. She grew up in the Cherokee culture and was registered as a citizen of the Cherokee Nation.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert “Bud” Taylor and Bessie Ballard Taylor, husband, James Edward Mathis, daughter and son-in-law Jimmie Lou Phillips and Loren Phillips, four sisters, Gladys Holland, Pearl Hayes, Marie Johnston, and Fern Taylor; two brother, Herbert W. Taylor and “Little Richard”; niece Dorothy Scott, nephews Leroy Hayes, Robert Hayes, Steven Holland, and Michael Kitchens; great-grandson, James D. Warner, great-niece Lara Holland.
She is survived by her sons, Billy Wayne Mathis, James Stephen Mathis and wife Laura, and Bryan Taylor Mathis and wife Donna; grandchildren, David Warner, Alonzo Warner, Adrianna Storbakken, Andrew Mathis, Bryan Mathis, II, and Melissa Finch; great-grandchildren Garrett Warner, Josiah Mathis, Samantha Finch, Hayden Finch, James Finch, Nolan Mathis, Kady Mathis, Jocelyn Mathis, Kenleigh Mathis, Logan Chapman, Kayli Chapman, and Madison Chapman; great-great grandchildren, Levi, Aiden, and Caleb Warner; numerous nephews and a special niece, Maudie Ann Kitchens.
