Margery Thomson

Margie Thomson, born Margery Anne Burr, passed away peacefully at the age of 88, on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, in Mount Pleasant, TX. She was born in Westfield, NJ, on March 21, 1930, to Dorothy Irene and Thomas Stockton Burr.

Margie was a loving wife to Robert, and an adoring mother to Bonnie Hess of Mount Pleasant, and Holly Doherty of Fort Lauderdale, FL. She was loved by five grandchildren and five (soon to be six!) great grandchildren.

Among Margie’s favorite things were taking care of her family, going to church, traveling, music and dancing (!!), and cooking. Robert was famous for his quote: “You can’t eat better anywhere than you can right here!” attesting to Margie’s great cooking skills.

Throughout her life Margie was busy with golf, garden club, local theater, and other civic duties. She was always there for her children. She was well known at her local church, Calvary Chapel, for dancing down the aisle, fingers snapping, and feet flying and dressed in red.

Margie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert G. Thomson, and her brother, Thomas Burr, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Hess (Gary Hess) and Holly Doherty (Bobby Goldman); grandchildren, Morgan Doherty, Hollienoël Doherty Heard (Dennis Heard), Evan Hess (Amy Hess), Zoë Hess Carney (Kyle Carney), and Zane Doherty; and great-grandchildren, Emma Hess, Adalyn Hess, Charlotte Heard, Henry Heard, and Robert Carney.

Margie will also be remembered by a host of beautiful, kind and loving, caregivers. Thank you Amanda Ferkich, Gabriela Rodriguez, Sandra Sandoval, Maria Perez, and phenomenal staff of Mt. Pleasant Assisted Living for spending your days and nights beside her, dressing her, making her laugh, keeping her cute, coaxing her to eat, getting her tucked into bed at night, and just always loving her. Your outpour of love and generosity will never be forgotten.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Calvary Chapel, 411 N. Van Buren Ave, Mount Pleasant, TX at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be one hour prior. Interment to follow at Old Union cemetery.
