Jerry Porter was born on April 27, 1944, to Fred and Evon Porter in Pittsburg, Texas, and passed away at home on August 16, 2019. He was proud to say he lived in Blodgett, Texas, his entire life where he was a dairy farmer and then worked for Pilgrim’s Pride as a truck driver until he retired.
Jerry was a member of the Blodgett Church of Christ where he served as a teacher, song leader and elder for many years. Serving the Lord was the most important thing in his life and making sure that family and friends also served the Lord was his biggest goal.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Joyce Porter, son John Porter and wife Shana, and twin daughters, Carla Hines and husband, Heath, and Carol Vandiver and husband, Jeff. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Kaili Duck and husband, Cody, Jesi Buck and husband, Zach, Lakin Porter, Casey Vandiver, and Blake Porter and wife, Tambree. Emma Kate Porter, his great-granddaughter, was his pride and joy. He also leaves behind his beloved sister, Jean Martin, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at the Blodgett Church of Christ building on Sunday, August 25, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Jerry requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Blodgett Cemetery Association.
